Thompson Village & St Martin’s combined forces over the weekend of 26th, 27th & 28th July for a weekend of talks, music, flowers & history.
The weekend started on Friday evening with a talk by Peter Bance on Prince Frederick Duleep Singh and his connections with Thompson, Merton & Breckles.
The Community Hall was open all weekend with an amazing display of the history of the village with lots of information, old photographs & maps as well as a fascinating slide show of old photographs.
On Saturday evening we held our concert of Music for a Summer evening. The weather was a bit autumnal but the atmosphere was anything but! We were treated to the most wonderful evening of music & singing by the Diss Guitar Ensemble, Archangel a Capella voices and Karen Harries Allen accompanied by Ann Scott. All the artists all generously donated their time and for that we are very grateful.
During the interval there was a sumptuous buffet laid on by our catering team – Sandie, Alison, Angie & Katharine – ably assisted by our bar men, James, John, Richard & Henry. We could not have put on such a momentous event with out many, many helpers in the background. Thank you to you all and thank you to everyone who came and supported our talented performers and helped raised much needed funds for the continuing restoration of St Martin’s.
Our next event is Lavender’s Lunch on Sunday 1st September and we look forward to seeing you all then.
